Tokyo, Japan – The Promo-Arte Gallery is honored to present DOUBLE CROSSING, a solo exhibition by the Brazilian artist Gustavo von Ha. The show at the Promo-Arte Gallery is curated by Marcos Moraes (Director of Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation – FAAP in Sao Paulo) and runs from February 24 through March 15.
Introductory text by Marcos Moraes
"I like the idea of doubles, illusion; an illusion can create a kind of reality easily. This subject is very usual in our time where everybody does 'Ctrl-C + Ctrl-V' day-by-day. This internet 'Era' with millions of unauthorized downloads, fake informations and SPAM makes me remember Orson Welles broadcast story in 1938", declares Gustavo about his current work.
"…I can see the thing's body. It's as large as a bear and it glistens like wet leather…The eyes are black and gleam like a serpent. The mouth is V-shaped with saliva dripping from its simless lips that seem to quiver and pulsate. The monster or whatever it is can hardly move"…
Although this description of Martians may sound unbelievable, many believed that these terrible creatures were invading the United States after listening to a radio show by Orson Welles. The episode began as a Halloween story in 1938 airing on Columbia Broadcasting System and became one of the most famous unintentional hoaxes of all time.
It is worth to mention this episode above to realize that some fake information can hardly turn into a real happening. Gustavo von Ha likes this idea to create a conundrum and brings a new aura for his work.
The exhibition is composed by 30 drawings made through fleeting reflections from printed images (some from internet, books and some from original artworks) to a new media, a new drawing on paper. The drawings appear inverted because of the reflection.
Von Ha has dazzled viewers throughout the world with his objects, installations and drawings. His work has been seen in Italy, Spain, Greece, England, France, Japan and USA as well as throughout South America.
