What sets us apart from other open content educational initiatives, like for example MIT, is that we focus on practical courses where people can benefit from in their daily life. At the moment we offer mostly software and language courses but our goal is to cover many more subjects of interest.
Apart from the general benefits of open content, we would like to make more people aware of the benefits of publishing educational information as open content for themselves or for their businesses.
These benefits are:
If you let others republish your work, provided that they give you credits, it could well start some kind of viral marketing.
Goodwill from your audience/clients:
Your audience will like it and they will trust you more, if you give something good away for free and even give them the opportunity to re-use it.
It is obvious that we want and need to keep the portal free. We also are not looking to get subsidized because we like to stay independent. We think we can do that if we attract enough visitors to our website and if fresh content is added on a regular bases. The only income from this site is through advertisement but other suggestions are welcome of course!
20% of the income goes to projects in developing countries that are related to open content or open source.
